Why did Starbucks stop accepting cash? It's called a Cashless store.

1. Cashless Society

Many countries are entering a cashless society sooner or later. We are becoming more and more aware that paper money has its drawbacks and is slowly fading away. According to the DATA Report, Thailand has the 4th highest e-Payment user base in the world. It is clearly a step into a cashless society. So, this may be one of the key factors in starting to stop accepting cash. Because Thailand is getting ready to pay via e-Payment.

2. The COVID-19 situation

Many of you may not be able to guess why using cash is something that should be avoided. Because COVID-19 not only transforms society into a cashless society, it is also a catalyst for the behavior of people around the world to spend money online, whether online shopping or even ordering food. There is a noticeable increase in usage. This, which this, directly affects consumer behavior and accelerates rapid change, thus making Starbucks see the readiness of consumers and behavior change.

3. Increasing the number of people who use the Starbucks Thailand app and Starbucks card.

As we live in an era where data is extremely important, Starbucks encourages customers or consumers to spend, order, or collect points through its own apps or cards, enabling Starbucks to obtain customer information. This will be analyzed to expand the business or improve the service to suit the next target audience.

4. Reduce management costs

We imagine that if we had to reserve cash to change money and had 400 stores and had to reserve about 5,000 baht per branch, 400 branches would have to reserve as much as 2 million baht. This would also affect costs that we may not see, like spending time managing cash each day. Therefore, not accepting cash is something that can make it easier for employees to manage their work, reduce mistakes, and the company can greatly reduce the cost and can use time effectively at work without wasting time on managing cash.

However, in the future, we may see all 400 stores that do not accept cash. which depends on the availability of consumers as well as other factors included as well.
