Old/Teared Banknotes can be redeemed at banks

A Mutilated or Defaced Banknote with torn-off parts that are not more than half or three-fifths

If the banknotes are torn off not more than half or three-fifths of it can be redeemed at ‘full value’ by carrying out the case at ‘GSB’ every business day or ‘general commercial bank’ every Wednesday.

If no more than three-fifths of the banknote is missing, a new one can be redeemed immediately. However, if the torn-off part is more than three-fifths of the note but more than half of it or is difficult to verify,

you have to file a complaint for the exchange of damaged banknotes to the Bank of Thailand (BOT).) Once approved, you will receive the full value of the banknote through transferring to the account or paying in money order.

A half banknote

If the banknote is half torn in the middle, and the torn-off half is lost, the banknote can be redeemed at the ‘half value’.

By visiting ‘GSB’ every business day or ‘General Commercial Bank’ every Wednesday and filing a complaint to the Bank of Thailand. Once the BOT is approved, you will get a refund on the account or money order.

A half banknote that is attached to the other half of the same banknote

Many people, when they tear off banknotes, they often tape them together and make them the same banknotes. The half banknotes attached to the other half of the same banknotes can be redeemed for a new banknote at ‘GSB’ every business day or at ‘general commercial banks’ on Wednesday.

A mismatched banknote

On the other hand, if half of the banknote is taped together with different denominations of banknote, also known as the mismatch banknote.

If this happens, go to GSB every business day or the general commercial bank every Wednesday and file a complaint to the Bank of Thailand. Once approved, you will get a ‘full value’ refund through an account transfer or a money order.

A faded banknote

Anyone who accidentally washes the banknotes with laundry detergent or bleaches until it bleaches white, or the picture on the banknote is unclear. In this case, you can file a complaint with the Bank of Thailand to determine if it is a real banknote or not.

A burnt/bitten/decayed Banknotes

In this case, the banknote must be the least damaged by not removing or separating them by yourself. The banknote should be taken to the ‘ GSB ‘ on every business day or ‘ General Commercial Bank ‘ every Wednesday for evidence, and you take the evidence to the ‘Banknote Management Group, Bank of Thailand for further examination.

The banknotes will be examined individually for verification. If more than half of them are left, they will be refunded in full value through transfer channels or a money order.

According to the law, it cannot be redeemed.

Tips before redeeming notes

  1. keep banknotes in a container so as not to be damaged more than before
