68-year-old “Seng” is the owner of the Optimus statue and shared that a former district director of Samphanthawong asked him to help create a landmark for the Talad Noi area. He then crafted two robot statues: the first is Optimus Prime, located at the Khao Lam roundabout, and the second is Bumblebee, situated in front of Samphanthawong District. Now, he’s also working on a third robot statue, “Megatron,” which will be placed at Wat Ko.
After the Optimus statue went viral, it became more than just a place to make wishes. People even hired traditional dancers to perform rituals to show gratitude! Seng shared that on February 18, while he was cleaning the statue, someone asked if they could perform a ritual to thank Optimus for making a wish come true. The ritual took just 15 minutes before they left. Seng mentioned that this wasn’t the first time someone had come to perform such a ritual, and while he respects people’s beliefs, he’s happy that it has made Tala d Noi more lively.
The story doesn’t end there! The nearby shop, Hypnotized, noticed the statue’s growing fame and decided to create a ritual-related content. Initially, they offered red drink as an offering, but when people joked that they should offer motor oil instead, the shop complied. Eventually, they hired a traditional dancer to perform a ritual in front of the statue. The result? The shop became packed with customers to the point where the staff had no time to sit! The shop owner commented, “I’m not sure if it’s because Optimus is sacred or if it’s the power of social media, but the business really took off!”
It’s not just Hypnotized that has had strange experiences. Sunset, the shop across from the Optimus statue, has its own spooky tale! The manager shared that they had made a vow to run around the statue 50 times if their sales reached a goal, and sure enough, the sales went through the roof. However, during the second round, the chef also vowed to run 60 laps but forgot to do so. The result? The chef fell ill and had to be hospitalized for three days, and sales took a hit. Once the vow was completed, the sales returned to normal, and the chef’s health improved. The manager said, “At first, I didn’t believe it, but now I’m sure something’s going on!”
It looks like the devotees might need to check it out for themselves! But one thing’s for sure, the Optimus Prime statue has become a hot landmark in Talad Noi, benefiting tourists, devotees, and local businesses alike. If you have a wish to make or want to experience the atmosphere, it’s time to check it out!
