Baking soda, an item that you should have at home

When it comes to baking soda, many of you may think of muffins, or cookies which are freshly baked with a good smell because baking soda is an ingredient used to make Western food and pastries. However, did you know that baking soda isn’t just useful for cooking, but there are many other benefits that many people may not expect? What is baking soda? How is it so useful? Let’s take a look at it together!

What is baking soda?

Baking soda, or a chemical name called sodium bicarbonate, is a white powder with a distinctive flavor and alkaline. The chemical structural formula is NaHCO3, the same appearance as soda ash or washing soda. It has been widely used since B.E. 2473.

Benefits of baking soda

  1. Heal mouth ulcer The wound in the mouth is usually cured within 1-2 weeks. Mouth washing with salt water or 1 teaspoon of baking soda mixed with half a cup of water, once a day, will help you heal faster.
  2. Wash fruits and vegetables to reduce residual chemicals Dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda at a normal water temperature of about 20 liters, and soak the vegetables and fruits for 15 minutes before washing them with clean water. This reduces the amount of chemical residue by 80 – 95%. For vegetables that need to be cooked or baked such as lemons or oranges, use 1 teaspoon of baking soda to scrub gently around the fruit for 1-2 minutes and wash them.
  3. Get rid of dirt
    – Cleaning kitchen appliances
Mix baking soda with a small amount of water and lemon juice or vinegar in the same proportion. Soak a towel or sponge and wipe off dirt at various points, such as in microwaves, ovens, etc.
Get rid of dirt in the bathroom
Use a cloth or sponge soaked in water mixed with baking soda. Wipe off the dirt, leave it for 15-20 minutes, and wipe it with a freshly washed cloth. It can also be used to remove stains on clothes by mixing 110 grams of baking soda with washing products.

  4. Marinate meat to make it tender Add baking soda to the marinated sauce. It will make the meat soft easily. It is recommended to add no more than 1 spoon per 1kg of meat because baking soda is a mild alkaline. If used too much, it will infiltrate the meat and make it taste bitter and unpalatable.

  5. Get rid of mold on walls and trees Mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 liter of water, and stir it well. Then sprinkle over mold areas on the carpet. Use a sponge or scrub brush, and rinse with water. Then spray water in a spray bottle that is mixed again, leaving it dry without washing. The mold on trees can use the same formula to sprinkle on trees or stems with fungus once a week.
  6. Clean the front-loading washing machine Mix baking soda with water and vinegar, apply a towel, and wipe along the rim of the rubber and inside of the washing machine tank. Wipe off with a clean cloth again.
  7. Get rid of the odors in the cabinets Pour baking soda into every corner of the container or pour it into a cup and place it in the drawers of the container. Then use a vacuum cleaner. It is recommended to do it continuously until the smell disappears.
  8. Remove a crayon mark on the wall Take a damp cloth and dip it in baking soda, then scrub it on the pencil marks to make them fade away.
  9. Remove black stains along tile grout lines Mix ½ cup of baking soda and approximately  ¼ cup of ammonia or lemon juice, pour it in 7 cups of water, and mix them well before pouring in a spray bottle and spraying it along the bathroom floor. Focus on the black stain area along the tile grout lines. Leave it for 1 hour and then scrub again.
  10. Solve a clogged pipe Pour hot water into the clogged pipe and mix one cup of baking soda, vinegar, and water. Pour it and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes, then pour down clean water.
  11. Clean the mop Wash the mop cloth once before, then dissolve 4 teaspoons of baking soda in a bucket of water and soak it for 30 minutes.
  12. Polish white sneakers Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of warm water. Then dip the old toothbrush in it and rub your shoes thoroughly, or mix baking soda with shoe polish and rinse them in clean water before drying them in the shade. For damp, smelly shoes, pour baking soda powder into your shoes for one night and wash them as usual.
