Decrypt the color of license plates, why they have different color

Many of you guys absolutely have seen license plates of cars on the road , some are black, some are green and some are yellow. Have you ever wondered why there are different colors of license plates and how each of the colors work? Today, ACU PAY woll share a little knowledge about the color of license plates. Let’s start!

Red plate

For the red plate, it is a plate that is temporarily issued before the owner of the car gets an actual plate according to the type of vehicle. In principle, red plates are applied to vehicles that have not been legally registered. They are intended to provide temporary road access but are subject to restrictions and regulations by the Department of Land Transport.

Fluorescent White plate with green characters

Personal trucks or Pickup trucks use this color license plate, but some may be seen using black plates because when registered, they are only registered to be private-seat cars.

For fluorescent white license plates, black letters are used for cars and personal motorcycles. The positioning of the license plate numbers is different. For motorcycles, the alphabetical and provincial characters are placed on different lines. For the car, the alphabetical and numbers are in the same row.

Fluorescent yellow plate with black characters

 Refer to a car with no more than 7 seats, such as sedans and general non-loading cars. If the plate is fluorescent white with a blue letter, it refers to a car with more than 7 seats, such as a van with more than 7 seats.

It is a sign for a regular taxicab that can carry no more than 7 passengers or a motorbike taxi that uses this color plate as well.

It’s a plate used for small 4-wheeler taxis.

It’s a plate used for tricycle taxis.

Fluorescent green plate with black or white characters

This plate is used for business license plates, sightseeing cars, and rental cars.

Used only for trailers, road grinders, tractors and agricultural vehicles.

White plate with black characters

It is a license plate used in the diplomatic delegation. It will start with “ท”, followed by the country code, mark, and license number of that car.

Blue plate with white characters

A car of the person in a special diplomatic service uses the letters ‘พ’ for the consulate delegation. If it is a vehicle registration part of the International Organization or the United Nations Specialized Agencies, it will use the letter ‘อ’, followed by the license number.

Graphic background plate

It is a license plate with an auction and the background will use the symbol image in each province to be used as a graphic image.
