When entering international airports, we must declare our belongings to the inspectors. If there are no tax-paying items, we can go through the inspection on the green channel or the Nothing to Declare. However, if items need to be taxed, you must go through the Goods to Declare channel.

Each country has different restrictions on items, but one of them is “cash in and out of the country.” Each country has different cash amount regulations. The details are as follows.

How much should you carry cash in and out of the country?

  • Japan
For Japan, cash can be imported without limit, but if it exceeds 1,000,000 yen, Customs must be notified when entering Japan and must also be notified when leaving Japan.
  • Korea
You should not carry more than 10,000 USD in cash both in and out of the country. If it exceeds 10,000 USD, it is subjected to tax to the official.
  • China
China has a regulation not to carry more than 20,000 yuan each in cash, and excess money will be withheld from importing or exporting from the country, and Chinese Customs will impose fines under Chinese law.
  • Singapore
Singapore is another country with conditions not to carry more than 20,000 Singapore dollars in cash, or foreign currency, into the country.
  • England
In England, foreign currency cash can be carried in and out of the Kingdom without limit, but if it is more than 20,000 USD per person or equivalent, it must be declared to the Customs officer.
  • Taiwan
Taiwan allows cash to be carried in or out of Taiwan for 100,000 Taiwanese dollars and foreign currency worth up to 10,000 USD.
  • USA
The U.S. is a country that uses mostly debit/credit cards. U.S. Customs requires that U.S. citizens carry no more than 10,000 USD in cash. If this is exceeded, they must fill out a form when entering the country.
  • Australia
Those visiting Australia, here are not allowed to carry more than 10,000 Australian dollars in cash.
  • Hong Kong
For Hong Kong, whether inbound or outbound, they should not carry more than 120,000 Hong Kong dollars in cash, or they may be inspected by Customs.

Those who plan to not declare the cash they carry may waste their time stuck in Immigration if the officials find out. Also, they may be fined several times the value of the cash they bring, wasting time and ruining the mood. Therefore, before entering that country, you should read the regulations on bringing goods, especially cash, into the country carefully so that you can travel comfortably.
