Let’s take a look at Wat Phra Kaew Tunnel!

Hi everyone! Today, ACU would like to update some news about the opening of the tunnel! This tunnel is built to facilitate people while walking across the street. From now on, those who go to Wat Phra Kaew to pay respect to the Buddha do not have any risk while walking across the street. Also, after visiting Wat Phra Kaew, you can walk leisurely in this tunnel. However, before you guys go to the tunnel, ACU would like to volunteer to survey first, then review about this tunnel to you guys. LOL.

On January 1, 2023, there was an announcement that the underground tunnel was opened, considering it to be the new landmark in the heart of Bangkok. The tunnel can accommodate up to 10,000 tourists a day, as well as provide traffic safety and reduce road accidents and there’s a four-door exit link. Inside the tunnel, there are many exhibition pictures to see, including an old city plan, Rattanakosin history that is hard to find, and the picture of the atmosphere of the city of Bangkok that can be viewed, along with light music. It is suitable for sitting and relaxing. Also, there is a way to connect to the Maharaj Tunnel as well. Anyone who wants to take a picture of the Chao Phraya River can go. In addition, there are convenient facilities for tourists whether it is a phone charger or a spacious, clean bathroom. As for the exit to Wat Phra Kaew, you can walk out at Gate 4, which is very convenient. The service will be open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The underground tunnel program is divided into 2 sections.

  • Tunnel in front of Phra Lan: It is a tunnel through the intersection of Na Phra That road and Na Phra Lan road with a distance of 96 meters. There are 72 toilets available, divided into 21 men’s restrooms and 51 women’s restrooms. There are 4 ascents and descents which are Exit 1 is SanamLuang and Tha Chan, Exit 2 is the Fine Arts Department, Exit 3 is City Pillar Shrine, and Exit 4 is the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram.
  • Maharat Tunnel: It has a distance of up to 90 meters with 35 bathrooms, divided into 15 men’s restrooms and 20 women’s bathrooms, and there are 2 ascents and descents.

In addition, there is a glass elevator down to the tunnel that is spectacular for tourists because the specialty of the glass elevator is designed not to obscure the scenery. There are only glass fences around it. The underground elevator will only come up when people use it. For those who are interested in going on a pilgrimage, they can come and visit. You can take MRT and get off at Sanam Chai Station and use exit 3, and that’s it. Anyone who has never been here is recommended to try it out. You will be definitely impressed.
