What to know when you go to South Korea

Annyeong Haseyo. After many countries have announced the opening of the country again, traveling seems to be a bustle. Thai people tend to travel abroad more, especially to “South Korea”. Today ACU Pay will share with you the traditions and practices of South Korean people so that there will be no mistakes or a culture shock when you arrive. In addition, you can travel with fun and relaxation. Let’s take a look together!

  1. When receiving or giving things to Korean people, remember to receive and give with two hands because giving and receiving with one hand deem appropriate and disrespectful.
  2. Korean people give priority to respecting one’s privacy. If you see cute Oppa and Unni and want to take a picture with them, you have to ask them for permission first, otherwise, If he/she catches you and takes you to the police, you will face seven years in prison, and a fine of 30 million won (around 700,000 baht)
  3. According to Koreans’ beliefs, putting chopsticks in food is like a funeral or ritual related to death. So, do not put chopsticks in food!
  4. Too much talking on the dining table and blowing your nose is not polite.
  5. If you go to Cafe or Fast-food restaurant, containers must be put in the trash and also sorted out the trash before littering by yourselves.
  6. If you see a closed toilet lid in South Korea, it means this toilet is clean and is a sign to the next person that the toilet is ready to use. So you have to close the lid every time after using the toilet. Clean public restrooms are usually available throughout Korea, and toilets can be used in office buildings, hotels, shops or restaurants.
  7. Weight loss pills are illegal in Korea, including plant foods, vegetables, seeded fruits and some foods are also prohibited from being imported, such as pork sausages, oranges, tomatoes, grapes and so on. Trees, flowers, even soil are prohibited from importing, pets are also prohibited. So if you don’t want to be repatriated, do not bring these things into Korea.
  8. It is recommended for those who love shopping to not carry cash in every currency more than 10,000 USD or around 300,000 THB into Korea for both inbound and outbound because you might have to pay tax. You should use credit cards instead if you want to shop.
