Canada is one of the country’s most beautiful natural, forested, and mountainous countries, attracting many national tourists, especially Thai tourists, but most of the time, applying for a visa has complicated procedures that may lead many to choose to visit another country instead.
However, the Canadian government recently announced that it has revised its entry requirements by allowing tourists from some countries who have previously applied for visas to apply for electronic travel authorization (eTA) instead, allowing Thai people to enter Canada without a visa, effective June 7, 2023 onwards.
If you are qualified, you can apply for eTA. The application fee is 7 Canadian dollars (about 180 baht). However, in case of students coming to Canada to study as well as those who do not meet the requirements, it is necessary to apply for a tourist visa.
In addition, the eTA application will only apply to those who enter Canada via air traveling only. To enter Canada via bus, train, or boat, one must apply for a visa as usual.
The revision of Canada’s entry requirements will affect 14 countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Morocco, Panama, the Philippines, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Seychelles, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay.
The eTA is valid for more than 5 years or until the passport expires. If the passport expires before the eTA, it is necessary to re-apply for eTA. If we have received an eTA, we can travel freely in Canada without restricting the number of flights to the country but we must abide by the conditions strictly.
Anyone who meets the requirements and wants to apply for eTA can apply on the website.
