Is Kang-som not delicious!? #saveแกงส้ม Kang-som ranked as the world’s worst menu

How dare you tell me that Kan-som is not tasty! After TasteAtlas.com has updated a poll of the world’s worst menu in February,2023 and Kang-som ranked in the 12th of this poll. There is a hashtag #saveแกงส้ม went viral on the internet by Thais after the poll was announced. Kang-som is a sour curry in Southern Thailand style. Today, ACU will show you what dishes were on the world’s worst menu poll. Also a recipe for cooking delicious Kang-som for you.

Thai people were shocked and confused after TasteAtlas.com, a world-famous food website, had ranked 50 dishes of the world’s worst menu which are Indigirka Salad from Russia, Pizza Cake from Canada ranked in the second, Hakarl from Iceland ranked in the third, Fried Spider from Cambodia ranked in the fourth and Kang-som from Thailand ranked in the twelve. Thais had questions about why Kang-som is not delicious and put on #saveแกงส้ม until it went viral on Twitter. 

Kang-som is a Southern food menu that gives a sour taste, followed by salty sweet and spicy. Kang-som has many recipes depending on the preference of people. Some might add Acacia Omelet in Kang-som, some might just add meat. However, the recipe ACU will share with you today is kind of a simple recipe that you can follow.

6 dried chilis, 3 shallots, 5 garlic cloves, 1 tbsp of shrimp paste, 5 

krachais and 1tsp of salt

1 tbsp of Kang-som paste, 3-4 cups of water, shrimps, 1 tbsp of wet tamarind juice, 1 tbsp of fish sauce, 1 tbsp of palm sugar, and vegetable as preferred.

How to make Kang-som paste

  1. Pound dried chilis, shallots, garlic cloves, shrimp paste, krachai and salt together.

How to make Kan-som

  1. Pour water into a pot and boil the water until it boils. When it boils, add 1 tbsp of kang-som paste and stir until the paste melts.
  2. Then season with wet tamarind juice, palm sugar, and fish sauce.
  3. Add as many vegetables as you like, such as cabbage, carrots, corn etc. boiled enough to make vegetables ripen or soften.
  4. Then put the meat or shrimp that has already been cleaned into the pot.
  5. When Kang-som is already cooked, let it be decorated in a cup and eaten with rice.
