Social Security Fund Vs Workmen’s Compensation Fund, what are the differences?

Office workers are also likely to get sick, have accidents, or get hurt from work. Many office workers go to hospitals for treatment and think that social security will cover everything. Usually, when we become salaried workers or employees, we will receive 2 protection from the Social Security Office which are the Social Security Fund and the Workmen’s Compensation Fund. These two protection details are different.

Social Security is a fund in which employees, employers, and the government pay contributions. The Social Security Fund will provide protection for the insured in 7 cases that are not caused by work, such as

  • Illness
  • Child birth
  • Disabilities
  • Death
  • Child Allowance
  • Old age
  • Unemployment

The Workmen’s Compensation Fund is a fund that employers pay annually to the Social Security Office. Each company pays different contributions depending on the risk of business. The Workmen’s Compensation Fund is used only in cases of illness, disability, or death from working for the employer in 4 cases:

  • Medical Treatment Expense for up to 2 million baht
  • The actual payment is not more than 50,000 baht for one injury or illness.
  • If the accident is severe or chronic, the cost of treatment is 100,000 baht but not more than 300,000 baht.
  • A monthly compensation Compensation for 70% of salary loss, not exceeding 14,000 baht per month when an employee is in danger or ill due to working for his employer, resulting in work stoppage, loss one’s ability to work, disability, death, or missing.
  • Cost for rehabilitation of work performance In the case of rehabilitation of work performance after exposure to danger for employees who need rehabilitation.
  • The actual paid amount of cost for physical therapy is not more than 24,000 baht.
  • The actual paid amount of cost for rehabilitation surgery but not more than 40,000 baht.
  • Funeral expenses Pay the funeral director 50,000 baht

 

Social Security Fund Vs Workmen's Compensation Fund, what are the differences?

The difference between the Social Security Fund and the Workmen’s Compensation Fund will vary quite a lot from the payer to the compensation, protection in case of an injury at work, and hospital treatment rights. The details are as follows:

  • Social Security Fund contributions will be paid by the employees, but the workmen’s compensation funds will be paid by the employers. Therefore, the workmen’s compensation fund expenses are not included in the salary slip.
  • The Social Security Fund will cover employees in 7 cases that are not caused by work: illness, childbirth, disability, death, child allowance, old age, and unemployment under labor law, but the workmen’s compensation fund will provide you with protection in case of an employee’s accident or illness while working for employers.
  • The Social Security Fund’s hospitalization must be a hospital selected by its employees, but the Workmen’s Compensation Fund can admit in any hospital but employees need to pay in advance if the hospital has not agreed with the Workmen’s Compensation Fund and the medical fee ceiling is set.
